LayerCue is made by CastPad. This page says what happens to your information in the app at
LayerCue and on the site at layercue.com. It is written to be read, not to be survived.
The short version
Section titled “The short version”Your shows stay on your computer. Playlists, media files and text are written to your own disk and are never uploaded to us. Your settings stay there too — unless you turn on settings sync, in which case the settings alone are kept with your account (see below). The app carries no analytics, no crash reporting and no usage tracking of any kind.
If you sign in, we keep the small amount of account information listed below, and nothing else.
What we keep when you sign in
Section titled “What we keep when you sign in”Signing in is optional. Almost everything in LayerCue works without an account; you sign in when you want to open Settings.
When you sign in with Google we ask Google for three things — openid, email and profile —
and store:
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your email address | To recognise you as the same person next time, and to reach you about your account |
| Your name and profile picture, if Google supplies them | To show you which account you are signed in as |
| An identifier from Google for your account | To match a returning sign-in to the right account |
| The time the account was made, and the time you last signed in | Housekeeping, and answering support questions |
| An identifier for each licence the app is given | So a licence can be withdrawn if it is lost or misused |
| Anything you send us as feedback | So we can reply, and fix what needs fixing |
| Your app settings — only if you turn on settings sync | So your settings follow you to another computer. Playlists and media files are never part of it |
We never receive your Google password. We ask for no access to Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Contacts or anything else in your Google account.
That is the whole list. Your email address, the name and picture Google supplies, and the rows above. Nothing else about you is kept.
When you turn on settings sync
Section titled “When you turn on settings sync”Settings sync is off until you turn it on in Settings. While it is on, the app sends its
settings — preferences such as display, editor and output options — to layercue.com, and they
are kept with your account so another computer you sign in on can use the same ones. Playlists,
media files and the text of your slides are not settings and never travel this way. Turning sync
off stops any further uploads; the copy already kept stays with your account until you delete it.
When you send feedback from the app
Section titled “When you send feedback from the app”Send feedback in the app carries your message along with the app version and which operating system you are on. Without knowing which build something happened on, we would have to write back and ask. You see exactly what travels with your message before you send it.
What you send reaches our mailbox and is kept with your account so we can reply. Replies go to the address you signed in with. Delete your account and your messages go with it.
What the app sends over the internet
Section titled “What the app sends over the internet”The app reaches the network only in these situations:
- layercue.com — when you sign in, send feedback or use settings sync, as described above. The copy of LayerCue downloaded from our site also asks once a day whether a newer version exists; that request carries nothing about you. The Microsoft Store version leaves updates to the Store.
- YouTube — when a slide plays a YouTube link, or fetches its title or thumbnail. Your request goes to Google’s servers the way it would if you opened the video in a browser.
- GitHub — when it checks for and downloads a newer copy of
yt-dlp, the tool it uses to download YouTube videos. - A web address an AI app gives it — if you connect an AI app over MCP and it asks LayerCue to add a picture from the web, LayerCue downloads that one picture from that address.
YouTube, GitHub and those web addresses are other companies’ services, handled under their own privacy policies. We do not receive a copy of what you play, when you play it, or how often you use the app.
What the website records
Section titled “What the website records”The site layercue.com is served by Cloudflare, which processes connection data — your IP
address and browser user agent, mainly — to deliver the pages and to protect the site from
attack. That is Cloudflare acting on our behalf as a
processor; we do not build profiles from it.
How long we keep it
Section titled “How long we keep it”The account record stays until you ask us to remove it. We do not delete accounts for being idle: a beta account is supposed to carry over to the released version, and deleting it in the meantime would break that promise.
When you ask, the record is deleted from the database without delay. We keep no shadow copy and no backup you could be restored from.
You can also delete it yourself. Delete account in the app (Settings → Account) opens
layercue.com/login; type delete there to confirm. Your account record, licences, feedback
and synced settings all go at once.
Where it is kept, and who runs the machinery
Section titled “Where it is kept, and who runs the machinery”| Who | Where | What | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare, Inc. | United States | The account record above | Serving the site and storing accounts |
| Google LLC | United States | Sign-in verification | You chose to sign in with Google |
If you would rather nothing left your machine at all, use LayerCue without signing in. Almost everything works that way, and then we receive nothing.
Those two are the only companies involved, and both are involved because they run the machinery. We do not sell your information and we do not share it for advertising. If we are ever legally required to hand something over, we will do so only to the extent the law demands.
How we look after it
Section titled “How we look after it”- Everything the site and app exchange travels encrypted over TLS.
- We collect little on purpose. What we never held cannot leak.
- We hold no passwords. Google does the verifying.
- The account records are reachable by the operator alone, behind keys.
- The licence the app receives is signed, so it cannot be forged or borrowed.
Your choices
Section titled “Your choices”Write to support@layercue.com and you can ask us to:
- tell you what we hold about you,
- correct it,
- delete your account and everything attached to it (or do it yourself, as above),
- or send you a copy of it.
We answer within 30 days. You can also disconnect LayerCue from your Google account at any time in your Google security settings, which stops us receiving anything further.
Children
Section titled “Children”LayerCue is a tool for running screens at events. It is not made for children, and we do not knowingly keep information from anyone under 14.
Changes
Section titled “Changes”If this page changes in a way that matters, we will say so on it and move the date at the top. Small corrections of wording will not be announced.
